Rhode Island is the first prison to offer MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) in the US. This has decreased the number of overdose deaths among people released from their correctional facility. While incarcerated, the inmates are given their choice of Vivitrol, Suboxone or Methadone. The best treatment is the one that an inmate wants to take and will stick with, which is why they offer all three. Listen in to this opiate recovery support group as they discuss this topic.

Discussion Guide:

Have you been incarcerated and been denied treatment?

If offered MAT while incarcerated, would you take it?

Which medication would you take? Why?

Would you follow prison based MAT with a treatment program upon your release?
