In this podcast I discuss the Youth Employment Service (YES) with the CEO Dr Tashmia Ismail. The programme was launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa in March 2018 as a collaborative venture with the private sector, and lays out clear strategies to tackle unemployment in a systematic manner. The private sector plays a central role in creating opportunities for young people. The absorption target is 300 000 of young people placed in apprenticeship-type jobs annually and 1 million over the next three years. Part of his programme is to help small and medium-enterprises to place in employment opportunities young people that cannot be absorbed by major companies. [email protected]
