A woman who slowly lost her hearing over 15 years, to the point where she is now clinically deaf, tells her story of how she's adapted and overcome, including her decision to get a Cochlear implant. 

This woman, Angela Irwin is an advocate for the deaf community and a Cochlear Implant recipient. She is originally from a small farm town in South Dakota, but has lived in France with her husband for over the past 10 years. Angela has been featured in various publications and media outlets, sharing her story of loss, hope, and triumph. One such appearance is Angela's incredible TEDx Talk.

Angela Irwin was born with normal hearing, but gradually lost her hearing over the course of 15 years. It's only through the power of technology that Angela can hear the world around her. This technology is a Cochlear Implant.

With the 19th Anniversary of the day I became blind only 1 week away, I am left to reminisce on how I got to this point in my life.

As a man of Faith I can so clearly look back on my life, my childhood years, those first 17 years of life and so clearly see how God's hands were at work all along.

It is so clearly laid out just how God had been preparing me for what was to come. God knew that I would become blind on October 28, 2003 as it was all part of his plans. But God never does something for nothing. And therefor God spent the first 17 years of my life preparing me, molding me, guiding me to become a man who would take what was to happen and turn it around for good!

Cesar Perez is a professional actor, musician, and Salvadoran immigrant who spends every day of his second chance at life striving to be the best possible version of himself.

Cesar Perez went from rising Hollywood star to miraculously surviving a head-on collision with a drunk driver. And yet he shines brightly with the resilience of the human spirit.

Cesar starred alongside Daniel Ratcliff (Harry Potter) in the action thriller Beast of Burden for which he also did graphic design work. He was also cast as a major lead character Javier in the action thriller Blind Trust.

On October 28, 2003 the host of this podcast, Kevin Lowe, saw the faces of his family for the last time. Upon waking from a surgery that saved his life with the removal of a brain tumor Kevin was left completely blind.

It's been a long road, these past 19 years, but along the way Kevin has time and time again proved to himself that even without sight, this world is still beautiful.

As a Florida resident, Hurricane Ian has been top of mind for the past couple of weeks. And in its aftermath I have been left to truly count my blessings. This is what prompted the topic discussed inside of today's solo episode.

I had something happen while caught up in my own despair that reminded me that it was time I shift my focus away from me and my problems and start focusing on all the others who are suffering so much more than me.

Today's topic goes far deeper than just the effects of a hurricane. It speaks to the many aspects of life in which we are faced with our own trials and tribulations, but all the while understanding that there is someone out there who has it worse than us.

Ultimately, today is all about reminding us to count our blessings and to shift our attention away from ourselves and towards others who are struggling too.
