Healing in the Power of the Spirit

Scripture: Acts 3:1-10

Big Idea: God gets great honor when He heals us even without any faith of our own.

1. The Holy Spirit uses us during the most ordinary times of our lives if we will be ready (1)

a. They committed their normal day-to-day lives to God

b. They were committed to being used even if it was inconvenient

c. They were committed to being used even if they failed

Lesson: God uses people who are always at the ready to be His hand extended into hurting lives

2. Sometimes we ask for God’s second best (3)

a. The beggar asked for money when God wanted to give him healing

b. He looked to a man for assistance, instead of looking to God

Lesson: Always seek God’s best answer as it relates to your healing

3. The Holy Spirit chooses to use people…warts and all…in healing (4)

a. God chooses to use real live people to answer our prayers

Lesson: Expect that God will use our pasts and experiences to be the answer to someone’s need …even healing

4. Healing is only through the power of Jesus himself (6)

a. Peter recognized that Jesus was still alive and active

Lesson: God does not need the faith of the recipient to heal—it is the power of Jesus not the person.

Lesson: God does not need the spiritual strength of the one praying—it is the power of Jesus not the person. (3:16)

5. Healing always brings honor to God, not man (8-10)

Lesson: God heals in a timing that brings the greatest amount of honor to God

i. How does God heal?

1. God sometimes heals immediately

2. God sometimes heals slowly

3. God sometimes heals with doctors and medicine

4. God sometimes heals by bringing wisdom to us to treat our bodies better

5. God sometimes decides not to heal
