In this episode, we discuss our favorite pieces from the African art collection at the Dallas Museum of Art, and review some of the heady questions that we have proposed in our first three episodes around repatriation and the secret stories of stolen art. Thank you for joining the HUMA 6300's fall 2022 class as we've explored these problems facing the art world; we hope that they've prompted deeper thought on your part regarding how museums are put together, how objects come to be there, and what problems occur as we consider art that has been displaced far from its home.
Histories Adrift examines the stories of historical objects living in places far from their origin. Each episode we discuss the untold histories of these stolen objects and the complexities of repatriating museum artifacts with scholars from diverse backgrounds. Histories Adrift is a podcast of the University of Texas at Dallas. It was produced by Dr. Nils Roemer and his HUMA 6300 class during the fall semester of 2022. The class team for this episode was: Mousaab Bellaouar, Rachel Catlett, Christopher Edwards, Angela Ford, David Kashfi, Ethan Lafond, Whitney Pisani, Greg Shows, and Shirley Yu. Our cover image was created by Angela Ford and our theme music is Objet A by Greg Shows. Special thanks to Katie Fisher for technical help.
