Following a week of uncertainty over who would claim the speaker’s gavel, on Monday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans worked together to agree on a rules package for the 118th Congress. The GOP has long complained about excessive spending bills which ratchet up the national debt, and these new rules aim to remedy this with changes to spending and enforcing transparency on what will go into a piece of legislation.
