The nation has waited for years for the federal government to fix health care. Obamacare did not live up to its promises. The Republicans failed to pass reform when they were fully in control in 2017. Now, reformers are fending off a march forward towards bigger government health care. That is why Brian Blasé, a former economic advisor to President Trump has formed The Paragon Institute. Naomi Lopez of the Goldwater Institute is a public advisor. They both discuss how states are showing there are real solutions to fixing the nation’s health care mess.

The Paragon Institute opened its doors in November. Its sole mission is health care reform at the state and federal level. The goal of health reform is to put control back into the hands of consumers, freeing providers to treat in ways that best meet the needs of their patients and promoting innovation while letting the market do its magic. Blase and Lopez remind listeners that states often lead the way to health reform. They discuss:

How state employee health insurance is an opportunity for states to test out market reforms. Lawmakers seem more open to work across the aisles.

Scope of practice, telehealth, right to try laws, direct care, reinsurance are just some areas where states can make improvements without having to wait for the federal government

Blasé and Lopez discuss Paragon’s first product, a book, Don’t Wait for Washington: How States Can Reform Health Care Today and where listeners can get free access.
