This week Amy chats to Editor in Chief of Runners World Andy Dixon (you may remember him from the first ever Well Far episode) and Becca Burns - keen runner and Strategic Research Facilitator, Environment Domain at UCL - to learn about how we can all be greener runners because although running presents as a fairly eco pastime, if you are unaware your sweaty pursuits will impact the planet. From the shoes you choose right through to big races and the gels you glug, we explore the many environmental effects of going well far. Plus, we discuss how easy it is to leave less of a footprint.

4 ways to be a more eco-friendly runner: 1. Try to make your running shoes and apparel last as long as they can. By treating your shoes and kit with care and increasing their longevity you will limit the amount of things that you buy reducing the frequency and quantity of by-products being directed to landfill.

2. Use this time in isolation to take stock of your habits and reflect on ways in which you could minimise your impact on the planet. Look at what's in your cupboards and research into nutrition (in general) and recyclable gels.

3. Find new life for your unused items - you may not use them, but someone else will. Instead of throwing away your unwanted running clobber, redirect old or unused kit to charity shops and friends any garment that you give away is one less garment bought and created.

4. Eco-tips to fuel your long run with gels: Look for a recyclable brand. Don't take the tab off fully, squeeze them to get as much out of them as you can and then take them home with you rather than putting them in the public bin. Take things into your own hands by giving them a big rinse and recycling them yourself. This will ensure that they are actually recycled as dirty materials often make the recycling process a lot harder or impossible altogether!
