The Government's committed to ensuring MPs salaries are relevant to what people on the median wage are receiving.

MP's salaries and allowances are being frozen for a year, while the Government works out a fairer formula for increases.

Workplace Relations Minister Iain Lees-Galloway told Mike Hosking they're taking their time to consider the best options.

"The three per cent increase on our pay is just going to widen the gap between us and someone on the median wage so we are interested in looking at models that give us some amount of money that's relevant to what people on the median wage are getting."
