Jay Oliveira is a black belt in jiu jitsu and an educator on plant-based nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. He is someone who truly embodies what it means to follow your dreams, live your passions and do what makes you happy.  Jay came onto my radar about 5 or 6 years ago through YouTube, when I was learning about this lifestyle. His style is no nonsense, no fluff, simple, candid, uses evidence. He’s also an athlete, which appealed to me as well.  Our discussion takes a walk down a different road than normal. We step away from the details of medicine and talk about living a fulfilled life, living your dreams, living healthy.  We speak about Jay’s story of being a young professional, working himself to the bone and being nauseous at the thought of leaving for work every day for a job he hated. We speak about him being an athlete, and being unhealthy, and then finding a healthy lifestyle again. Jay is a black belt in jiu jitsu, and we speak about that. We also speak about trends within social media on nutrition and personal health and provide ways to think about that.  The big take-away that I want to discuss in the epilogue is following your north star, doing what makes you happy and marching to the beat of your own drum. Jay and I talk about going through life transitions that are hard, that in the moment seem destructive or uncomfortable. But that life is long, and that we need to put things into perspective.
