Episode #324: If You Liked 2020, You’ll Love 1960

Janet Hook of the L.A. Times leads off the program with a review of the top political news of the week:  the endorsements of Joe Biden by Bernie Sanders and Barack Obama, plus analysis of what happened in Wisconsin, where despite efforts to limit the vote, a conservative state Supreme Court justice was ousted by a progressive challenger.

Bernie Sanders may or may not get a chance to influence the writing of the 2020 Democratic Party platform at this summer’s convention.  It brought us back to another incident where an also-ran presidential candidate insisted on platform changes before he would endorse the frontrunner.  That was 1960, the also-ran was Nelson Rockefeller, and the frontrunner for the Republican nomination was Richard Nixon.  And Stephen Hess of the Brookings Institution was there.

And Jennifer Steinhauer of the New York Times talks about her new book, “Firsts,” about the class of women elected to the House in the 2018 midterm elections.
