Bethany was stalked at fifteen by her ex-boyfriend who was obsessed with winning her back.

After Bethany broke up with her older boyfriend he harassed her with phone calls and showed up drunk and crying to her parents house and begged her to take him back. 

He eventually manipulated his way back into her life and convinced her that he just needed a friend. Bethany's stalker tracked her every move, interrogated her about her other relationships, and threatened her life.

Annie Bowles is advocating for the release of April Wilkens, who was given a life sentence for killing her stalker in an act of self-defense.

Annie is striving to bring attention to the issue of criminalized survivorship and is pushing for the passage of the Oklahoma Survivors Act. This legislation aims to help survivors of domestic violence by allowing evidence of abuse to be presented during trials to potentially reduce their sentences. During the second half of this episode, we will be sharing parts of an interview Annie conducted with April in prison, allowing her to share her own story.

223. Justice For April Wilkens

Samantha was abducted and imprisoned by her stalker. 

After they met in college, Samantha realized a man had an unhealthy obsession with her when he started following her around and leaving her unwanted gifts. In 2014, when he pursued her across state lines, Samatha secured a six-year restraining order against him. Upon returning to her hometown six years later, she noticed his presence, but he kept his distance and remained silent. However, the eerie calm shattered one fateful night in October 2022 when he forcibly entered her home and abducted her, imprisoning her in a homemade cage; getting the idea from the TV Show "You." Samantha is bravely sharing her story of survival and unimaginable trauma.

Katie was cyberstalked after accepting a Facebook friend request from a woman she had never met in person. Initially, their messages were amicable, but they soon dove into personal topics, including emotional and mental struggles. Tension escalated when Katie started receiving messages from the woman’s boyfriend, expressing concerns about their relationship. When Katie advised him to leave if he felt it was toxic, she triggered the woman’s retaliation. This included menacing social media posts, fake reviews on Katie’s business page, and messages sent to her friends. Katie now aims to share her experience of cyberstalking to raise awareness about online safety.
