On Land-Grant Holy Land In Conversation, we talk to people in and around Ohio State athletics, and the sporting world at large, to bring you a different insight and perspective to the teams, athletes, and university that you love.

On today’s episode, I am in conversation with sixth-year flugelhorn player in the Ohio State Marching Band, Parker Stephens. After a year away from football games and the pomp and circumstance of Ohio Stadium, The Best Damn Band in the Land finally returned to the field last Saturday; and while the results on the field left much to be desired, the thrills and emotions of the band’s return were unmatched.

Like the athletes, Stephens was granted a sixth year of eligibility following the COVID-impacted 2020 season. Having recently graduated, Stephens took the band up on the offer and came back from one more year. As a former squad leader of C Row, Stephens knows and loves the marching band as well as anyone and explains what made Saturday so special for him, and what makes the band so special to Ohio State.
