HEY FRIENDS!

Today on the show, we bring you the whip-smart Yassmin Abdel-Magied. Yassmin is a media personality and a writer, yes, but she’s also a woman who worked for years as a successful engineer and social justice advocate who, at just 16, started the youth charity Youth Without Borders. In 2010 she was named Young Queenslander of the year, and in 2015, she was named Queensland Australian of the Year. Her 2014 TED Talk has been watched by more than 3 million people worldwide, she’s written a memoir, and now she’s turning her hand to YA fiction, releasing You Must Be Layla in 2019, and her newest book, Listen, Layla, which was released this week.

In this chat, we talk about everything: from being a teenage overachiever, to the precipice of burnout, to what it feels like to grieve her younger self.

For more from Yassmin, follow her on Instagram @yassmin_a and grab a copy of her latest novel, Listen, Layla.

If you enjoyed this episode, we recommend you also listen to our chat with fellow writer Jamila Rizvi. You can find that one right here.
