She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2016, the same year Donald Trump was elected president, and quickly advanced in the GOP congressional leadership. It all came crashing down this year, when Cheney rejected Trump, very publicly, after he refused to concede defeat to President Joe Biden and claimed the 2020 election was stolen.
