International Museum Day with HE Manal Ataya (18.05.2020)

On International Museum Day, we celebrate the impact of museums and exhibitions as an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples. The ground-breaking collaboration between the Vatican and Sharjah Museums in 2014 showed just that, when "So that You Might Know Each Other" brought 70 pieces of Islamic heritage from the Vatican's collection on show for the first time in it's 300 year history. Her Excellency Manal Ataya, the Director-General of Sharjah Museums Authority tells us how it all happened.

The exhibition titled- ‘So that you might know each other- World of Islam from North Africa to China and beyond’

This was a landmark exhibition in partnership with the Vatican that explored Muslim heritage in the West.

In the midst of the pandemic, Sharjah Museum is now taking its exhibitions online to be viewed via a virtual tour.
