He heard an old man talking about the thorn-hedge,

and that a castle was said to stand behind it

in which a wonderfully beautiful Princess, named Briar-Rose,

and that the King and Queen and the whole Court were asleep likewise.

그는 또한 그의 할아버지에게 듣기를

He had heard, too, from his grandfather,

많은 왕의 아들들이 왔었으며

that many Kings’ Sons had come,

가시나무 물타리를 뚫고나가려 했으나

and had tried to get through the thorny hedge,

그들 또한 그속에서 갇힌채로

but they had remained sticking fast in it,

비참한 죽음을 맞이했다고요.

so had died a pitiful death.

그러자 젊은이가 말하길

Then the youth said,

저는 두렵지 않아요.

“I am not afraid.

저는 가서 아름다운 장미를 보고야 말거예요.

I will go and see the beautiful Briar-Rose.”

착한 늙은이는 그가 그러지 못하도록 단념시켰겠으나

The good old man might dissuade him as he would,

젊은이는 늙은의 말을 듣지 않았습니다.

he did not listen to his words.

그러나 그때는 백년의 시간이 흘렀던 순간이었고

But by this time the hundred years had just passed.

장미가 다시 깨어날 날이 온 것이었습니다.

The day was come when Briar-Rose was to awake again.
