Siempre hemos escuchado que la obesidad es un problema de salud severo, pero ¿cuántos de nosotros pensamos que eso es una exageración? Porque, la verdad, somos muchos gorditos en el mundo.
En nuestra cultura latina, siempre nos molestan por estar muy gordos o muy flacos, el cuento es que nunca tenemos a nuestra familia contenta. Y, para ser sincera, también vivimos en una cultura donde la faja rifa y Herbalife se ha convertido en una compañía multimillonaria gracias a nosotros, los latinos.
Entonces, dado a cómo vemos el peso en nuestra cultura, se nos complica imaginar qué tipo de obesidad es más dañina para la salud. Y, en el caso de muchos, no tenemos claro cómo nuestra alimentación afecta a nuestro metabolismo. Precisamente, de todo esto y más platiqué con la Dra. Sonia Ponce, cardióloga y médica gerente de la Clínica de Cardiología Comunitaria en la ciudad de Chula Vista, California.
