Julie Chapman: KidsCan now feeding almost 30,000 kids five days a week

Listen Later

KidsCan says it's now feeding almost 30,000 school kids a week and a lot are accessing help up to five days a week.
The organisation now supports 732 primary, intermediate and high schools in all 16 regions of New Zealand, offering food, shoes, socks, raincoats and health and hygiene items.
Founder Julie Chapman says at the beginning of term three they sent almost 1.3 million items of food to schools to help alleviate the pressure on parents to squeeze every cent out of their weekly food budget.
She says what they're seeing more of now is older kids going without food at home so that the younger siblings can eat.
She says that's not a choice anyone should have to make.
