Kasey Crider accepted a position as assistant coach on the Miami volleyball coaching staff in March 2015.
The Hurricanes returned the NCAA Championship in 2017 for the ninth time in program history. Miami won its first postseason match since 2014, defeating the College of Charleston in the opening round of the tournament in Gainesville, Fla. The Canes fell to No. 2 Florida in four sets in an exciting second-round matchup to close the season 22-6 and finish with their best winning percentage since 2012.
Notes for volleyball:
Volleyball is off to a 5-0 start this year for the first time since 2017 – the last time they made the NCAA tournament. What does Kasey & coaching staff like about this group?
This past weekend, the Hurricanes swept a home-and-home with USF. Kasey talked a little bit about the adversity they faced – they lost a set for the first time all season on Friday night in Tampa but came back with a vengeance. On Sunday, the Canes were down in the second set and third set by a hefty margin but battled back. What can he say about their resiliency?
There are a lot of young players on the squad, but a lot of veterans and reliable faces have played a role – Emily Damon was big versus USF on Sunday, Savannah Vach has been key as has Angie Grieve. A nice mix of veterans and young players – squad make-up would be good to touch on.
Peyman Yardimci (yar-DIM-chee) from Istanbul looks like she is going to be a force for us. She’s from Turkey and is playing her first year of college volleyball as a freshman at The U. What’s Kasey like about her makeup?
The Hurricanes travel to Texas State to play two good teams this weekend – Texas State on Friday and Alabama on Saturday. What’s he anticipate seeing?
Next weekend is the Sunshine State Classic hosted by Boca – Miami will play UCF, FAU and FGCU – before opening ACC play at Louisville and at Notre Dame on Sept. 24 + Sept. 26. Maybe touch on how the nonconfenrece schedule was comprised and how it will help prepare the team for ACC?
