The kidneys are responsible for reducing toxin buildup in the body from whatever is ingested. They also are responsible for fluid balance (to make sure the person or animal is well-hydrated and excreting the right amount of urine), salt balance, and the management of a variety of hormones such as those that reduce blood pressure.
