Lake Fork Texas Fishing Report: Ideal Winter Conditions, Productive Bass and Crappie Spots

Listen Later

As of January 12, 2025, here’s the latest fishing report for Lake Fork, Texas.

First off, let's talk about the water conditions. The lake is currently at 1.85 feet below pool, with water temperatures at around 55 degrees and a stained clarity. This setup is ideal for winter fishing.

For those interested in the tidal aspects, although Lake Fork is a freshwater lake and not affected by tides, the general weather and time of day can influence fish activity. Today, sunrise is at 7:22 AM and sunset at 5:07 PM.

Bass fishing has been good, particularly in 3-5 feet of water around timber or grass. Chatterbaits, square bill crankbaits, and flukes are your best bets for catching largemouth bass. Around docks in 5-10 feet of water, Texas rigs and shaky heads are also producing good results. For deeper waters, Carolina rigs on roadbeds and high spots at 14-17 feet are fair.

Crappie fishing is excellent, with lots of fish found on timber, brush, and bridges in 18-58 feet of water. Areas with plenty of shad are likely to have crappie nearby. Small hand-tied jigs and soft plastics are working extremely well, and minnows remain a reliable choice.

If you're looking for hot spots, consider the main lake points, especially those near creek channels. These areas often see a lot of fish activity, especially during the shad spawn. Another good spot is the rounded clay points that might not stand out but can be very productive, especially when shad are pushed up there.

Remember, historically, a strong cold front can shut off the bite when water temperatures drop to 43 degrees or lower, so keep an eye on the weather.

Overall, it's a great time to be out on Lake Fork, and with the right lures and knowledge of the hot spots, you should have a productive day on the water.
