Lake Texoma Fishing Update: Stripers, Cats, and More Amid Changing Conditions

Listen Later

As of October 18, 2024, Lake Texoma is offering some exciting fishing opportunities despite the challenging weather conditions. Here’s what you need to know:

### Conditions
The lake elevation is currently at 615.37 feet, which is about 1.87 feet below the pool level.
The water temperature is around 75 degrees, and the water is stained.

### Weather and Time
Sunrise today is at about 7:30 AM, and sunset will be around 6:30 PM. The weather pattern has been stalled, but we're hoping for some cooler temperatures and possibly some rain to improve conditions.

### Fish Activity
Striped bass fishing is excellent right now. Fish are actively feeding on live shad in 20-45 feet of water, particularly around humps and ledges. Topwater lures are also effective, especially early in the morning along flats and in the backs of coves. Keep an eye out for diving birds, as they often mark feeding schools on the surface.

Catfish are doing well too, with channel catfish found in shallow flats in 10-20 feet of water using cut shad and prepared baits. Blue catfish are more likely to be in deeper waters, around 40-50 feet, on ledges and deep flats.

Crappie fishing is fair, with fish found on brush piles using jigs and minnows in 12-15 feet of water. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are slow but can be caught using Texas-rigged plastic worms and diving crankbaits in 16-28 feet of water, especially near shaded docks late in the day.

### Best Lures and Bait
For striped bass, live shad is the go-to bait, especially when anchored on humps or drifting flats. Topwater lures and slabs are also effective, particularly during early morning hours. For catfish, cut shad and prepared baits are working well. For crappie, jigs and minnows on brush piles are the best options. For bass, Texas-rigged plastic worms and diving crankbaits are recommended.

### Hot Spots
One of the hot spots right now is east of the 377 bridge, where striped bass and other species have been consistently found. Another good area is near the Juniper Point, where fish are often caught in the morning hours. The Little Mineral area and behind the islands are also worth checking out, especially for striped bass and sand bass.

Overall, Lake Texoma is providing some great fishing opportunities, especially for those targeting striped bass and catfish. Keep an eye on the weather and water conditions, and be prepared to adjust your tactics accordingly.
