Have you ever walked away from dieting only to find yourself right back in there a few months or weeks later? Dieting is intoxicating and alluring—we can find ourselves in situations where we're more vulnerable to go back to dieting, even when we intellectually understand why it's not working. And, going back to dieting when you know it doesn't bring you what you really want, can bring up all kind of shame and guilt. So, why does this happen? I sat down and talked about this question with Dr. Maria Paredes. We discuss how diet culture is like an abusive relationship and we talk about what the science says about the process of walking away from it for good.
