In Listen Francesca tells us the story of May. May is a piano-genius college freshman who dreams of becoming a brilliant composer. In her school's practice rooms she meets Conner, an undeniably unattractive junior, and she is immediately captivated by his raw musicality on the piano. As May tries to navigate college life and fulfill her music dreams, Conner pulls her toward the natural world, toward her own wildness, and, ultimately, toward the wildness within her music as well.

Book has some lovely moments. Felt it might appeal to a 20-something audience.

This book had an unusual writing style that made for slow reading. I liked the character development and the way it was woven into the themes of the book, but I couldn't finish the it because it was so sad.
A very good read!!!!
It's a refreshing tale of young love written so descriptively you can picture this happening in every day real life. Beautifully written by a great author in the making. Highly recommend this book.

Listen is a tale about a girl named May who thinks she knows everything about her life, but her confidence slips away as she enters college and begins to see things differently. Listen asks the question about what is really important in life. Varela uses her poetic and almost lyrical writing style to share May's journey and to show us that true beauty is not something that we have to see to believe.
Beautiful, coming-of-age novel.
This beautiful, coming-of-age novel captivated me. Main characters May and Conner are two very different young musicians who become unlikely, but supportive companions as they try to understand their paths in life. They struggle like most young adults but find wisdom in music and nature. The evocative writing carried me along to an unexpected, yet satisfying, ending.
