Live Altering Prayer

A couple weeks ago we talked about New Years Resolutions vs. Finding the Rhythm of God in your life for 2015. What we discussed was Finding God’s Rhythm to pray in a way that doesn’t benefit yourself…. but glorifies our Savior. We used the scripture from Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. I’m curious if you prayed that scripture as your New Years resolution for 2015. It’s a little scary isn’t it….to not pray for Almighty God to make your life more comfortable, but rather give that illusion of control over your life… to Him, so that He can start dealing with your heart wounds and fears. It’s one thing to make a New Years Resolution to lose weight, but its a life altering prayer… to ask God to search your heart so that you know why you’re masking your pain with too much food in the first place. It’s one thing to make a New Years Resolution to prepare a financial budget so you know where your money is going. But its a life transforming prayer to ask God to search your heart and expose the greed, the materialism, and the lust of this world that reigns deep in your heart. Its one thing to make a New Years Resolution to stop looking at pornography. But its a bold prayer filled with the promise of freedom when you ask God to search your heart and open up the shame issue that drives you to medicate your life with sex in the first place.
