The Minnesota Wild lost their final game before the Christmas break 5-2 to San Jose. The Wild fell behind within the first minute of the game on an Erik Karlsson goal, but got a goal from Joel Eriksson Ek in the first to tie the score at 1-1. From there the Sharks controlled most of the action, building to a 4-1 lead before a Mats Zuccarello goal cut the deficit to 4-2. The Wild then gave up an empty net goal with time winding down for the 5-2 final. Marcus Foligno was scratched in warmups and the Wild went with 11 forwards, and they looked discombobulated for most of the night.
