John is the Eugene McDermott Master Teaching Chair in Science at St. Mark's School of Texas, in Dallas, Texas. John is a biology teacher, science communicator, and a nature photographer fascinated by Human origins, evolution, and microscopic organisms. In 2015, John traveled to the Evolutionary Studies Institute (ESI) at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa where he learned about the Rising Star Cave who discovered and recovered a huge collection of hominin fossil bones. John was also able to record and post video interviews with members of Rising Star Team to document their experiences. On March 7, as part of The Teacher Institute for Evolutionary Science (TIES), John will share his experience getting to know and work with the Rising Star Cave team and detailing the once-in-a-lifetime experience of how these new fossils were recovered and studied.
