Originally from Houston, Texas, Mark Patten spent a majority of his career working as a global CFO for large financial institutions in New York City. His plan, however, was to move back to Texas after his youngest child went to college and buy a flourishing accounting practice, which he did in 2014. In this episode of Accounting Marketing Doesn’t Suck, Hugh Duffy talks to Mark about why he chose to purchase a practice as his entry strategy into public accounting, what it was like to buy and take over a 40-year-old, prominent firm in Dallas and how marketing allows him to be selective when working with clients.
