Effect on Emotions

Mindfulness has caused me to also carry my emotions on my sleeve. I can cry easily, not just when I'm sad, but just when I'm overwhelmed, and with warm feelings and love. So I'm very emotional that way.

I have kind of corrected my anger. I don't fly off the handle like I used to in the early days, but I drank a lot back then. I've always been able to hold my emotions right there on my sleeve.

Thoughts on Breathing

I believe breathing is one of the most important things when it comes to mindfulness because that is life. Oxygen is life. One of the things you may not know about me is that I was also a stage hypnotist. One of the major things about hypnosis is the breathing.

If you're laying in bed and you can't get to sleep, if you'll just breathe and think about the breath you're taking, inhaling and exhaling. Put everything else out of your mind and just think about breathing. You can feel the life that's going into your body. I promise you, if you do that correctly, you're going to be asleep.

Bullying Story

Twelve years ago my wife and I started a website called Bully-Free Kids dot com. My wife was a seventh grade language arts teacher. At the time, I was in the martial arts business. We both experienced and saw bullying at it's worst. She was in seventh grade, which is puberty. That's where a lot of bullying will happen.

I was a bully when I was a kid, one time only. I'll tell you the story. It's a lesson I've held and learned from my whole life … (tune into the podcast to hear Steve's story).
