We all know Mary Shelley as the writer of the high-school-required-reading classic, Frankenstein, but in fact, Mary’s creation of the infamous monster is often described as the first piece of modern science-fiction. Mary was not only the creator of the science-fiction genre, she was also a hardcore, gothic woman. From losing her virginity on top of her mother’s grave, to keeping the calcified heart of her deceased husband in her writing desk, Mary Shelley was absolutely metal.
