Mary, the mother of Jesus, is perhaps the most ill-treated person in the Bible. On the Catholic and Lutheran side, she is revered as holy, sinless, a perpetual virgin, and worthy of worship. Her divine status makes her an intercessor between us and Jesus who should be prayed to. On the Protestant side, Mary sometimes gets reduced to little more than a vessel used by God to carry His Son.
