Renowned Russian-American journalist and author Masha Gessen joins us to discuss curating this year's Festival Albertine. The fifth annual installment of the festival will bring together thinkers, authors, and artists from around the world to ask not what a democracy is, but what it could be. The festival runs from October 30 through November 3.

Phantom Limb Company’s co-founders, Jessica Grindstaff and Erik Sanko, (at 26:10) joins us to explain the third installment of their trilogy on climate change, titled “Falling Out.” Using marionette-puppetry and multimedia set design, their newest piece looks at the impact of the 2011 tsunami and Fukushima nuclear disaster. “Falling Out” comes to BAM from November 7 through 10.

Artist Justin Brice Guariglia (at 40:45) joins us to talk about his new project, a multi-sited exhibit across all five boroughs comprised of ten solar-powered highway message boards titled, “Climate Signals.” It’s presented by the Climate Museum in partnership with the Mayor’s Office — Climate Policy and Programs and runs through November 6.
