The traffic department in Beijing is working to set up a database on professional beggars on the city’s subways, to make it easier for future law enforcement.
Little progress has been made in the past few weeks since a campaign was launched to crack down on illegal begging on Beijing&`&s subways.
There have been a number of reports on China&`&s "professional beggars", those who own iPhone 6 cellphones and beg for a living.
The number of professional beggars in Beijing is on the rise. They beg for cash in railway stations, subways and other public places, blocking foot traffic and affecting public security.
In order to strengthen supervision and management of the group, traffic police in Beijing have worked out ways to control professional begging. For example, police officers set up WeChat groups to exchange information on when and where to find the beggars who often play hide-and-seek with the officers.
