Six episodes in Mark 6 give us insight into how Jesus trained the apostles for leadership—Jesus’ final visit to Nazareth, His third and final tour of Galilee, sending out the apostles, John the Baptist’s death, Jesus feeding the 5,000, and Jesus walking on water. These events occurred in Galilee between late AD 28 and spring AD 29. Jesus had a little over one more year to train the apostles before His death (spring AD 30). The apostles had received Jesus in his humanity as Messiah, the son of David, but not yet in His deity as the Son of God.
