The Big Beautiful Bill military spending section is impressive and alarming. It makes you wonder whether we’re bolstering defenses or preparing for war. The answer is likely both.

The bill allocates money to build a Golden Dome missile system, boost production of every kind of missile, torpedo, mine, and explosive, and to improve the effectiveness of our nuclear weapons system. There’s even piles of money for unmanned underwater robots and lasers.
