Urgent - weather message. Early season heat wave persists with another day of near record highs. An early season heat wave will continue to impact Southeast South Carolina and Southeast Georgia today. Near record highs of 100 to 103 combined with moderate levels of humidity will produce dangerously hot conditions for portions of Southeast Georgia into far southern South Carolina. Heat advisory in effect from noon today to 8 pm Eastern Daylight Time this evening. The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from noon today to 8 PM Eastern Daylight Time this evening. Heat index values. High temperatures of 100 to 103 and moderate levels of humidity will produce heat indices of 103 to 106 this afternoon. Impacts. The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor activities. Precautionary/preparedness actions. If you must be outdoors, drink plenty of fluids, wear light weight clothing and stay out of direct sunshine. In addition, know the signs of heat illnesses and be sure to check on those who are most vulnerable to the heat such as young children and the elderly. DO NOT leave children or pets unattended in a hot vehicle. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 9 1 1.
