Robyn Gigl is an attorney, speaker, and activist who has been honored by the ACLU-NJ and the NJ PrideNetwork for her work on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community. Robyn has been practicing law for more than 40 years, representing clients in state and federal courts, and has been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court to the Court’s Committee on Diversity Inclusion and Community Engagement.

BY WAY OF SORROW is Gigl’s debut legal thriller and an #OwnVoices novel, introduces Erin McCabe: a criminal defense attorney doing her best to live a quiet life in the wake of her transition, divorce, and estrangement from most of her family. But when a young, Black, transgender prostitute is accused of murdering a wealthy politician’s son, Erin feels duty-bound to defend her – even if it means having her personal life thrust into the spotlight. Crackling with authenticity and featuring a protagonist who, like the author, is a transgender attorney, the novel tackles the complexities of how gender, race, class, power, and public perception impact the justice system. It also takes on the more personal struggles faced by marginalized groups, emphasizing on what comes “after,” from personal dramas to public perception and their day-to-day lives.
