The film Titanic featured the hymn "Nearer, My God, to Thee" a 19th century hymn most famous as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank. Written by Sarah Adams, Music: Lowell Mason, 1856 ,based loosely on Genesis  28:11–19,the story ofJacob’s Dream. Genesis 28:11–12 can be translated as follows: "So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it..." ©2012 Shiloh Worship Music COPY FREELY;This Music is copyrighted to prevent misuse, however, permission is granted for non-commercial copying only. Nearer, my God, to Thee,   Nearer to Thee; E'en though it be a cross   That raiseth me, Still all my song shall be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee,   Nearer to Thee.         2.Though, like a wanderer,   The sun gone down, Darkness comes over me,   My rest a stone; Yet in my dreams I'd be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee,   Nearer to Thee. 3. There let me see the sight,   An open heaven; All that Thou sendest me,   In mercy given; Angels to beckon me Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee,   Nearer to Thee. 4. Then, with my waking thoughts   Bright with Thy praise, Out of my stony griefs   Bethel I'll raise, So by my woes to be Nearer, my God, to Thee, Nearer, my God, to Thee,   Nearer to Thee. Words:, Sarah F. Adams, 6.          Music: Bethany (Mason), Lowell Mason, 1856: “One night, sometime after lying awake in the dark, eyes wide open, through the stillness in the house the melody came to me, and the next morning I wrote down the notes.”  ©2012 Shiloh Worship Music COPY FREELY;This Music is copyrighted to prevent misuse, however, permission is granted for non-commercial copying only.
