A Trumps Show—Justice in the Trump Era February 10, 2017 Jeff Sessions is your New Attorney General, and the brouhaha leading up to that confirmation gave us what will be Elizabeth Warrens Campaign slogan when she runs for President in 2020: you can print the bumper sticker now that’s to Turtle man Mitch McConnell’s now infamous drawl heard around the world: “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.” Now Trump has his errand boy to green light his so-called law and order agenda Jeff Sessions has called the ACLU—a group leading the way in protecting Muslims, undocumented individuals and others from Trump’s wrath of terror—un-American and Communist because they “try to force civil rights down the throats of people.” This is a man with a long documented history of opposing civil rights. This is a man who has used his privilege and power to suppress the vote. This is the man that Coretta Scott King was writing of in 1986, when she wrote—in a letter entered into the Congressional record, that Elizabeth Warren has no famously revisited. Sessions was appointed by a President who was a clear rebuke to the Black Lives Matter movement. The man who said of Black Protestors at his rallies that he longed for the good old days and that they should be carried out on a stretcher— that is Trumplandia. The 9th Circuit of Appeals refused—in a unanimous 3-0 vote— to reinstate Trump’s travel ban. It will be interesting to see how Trump reacts now. Will he continue to take this up the chain to the Supreme Court? Will he try to twist the arm of Department of Homeland Security to ignore the courts and enforce his EO anyway?  Or will he tweet about Nordstrom? For now, he is tweeting, both about Nordstrom and about his intention to take the court to court. Tom Price was sworn in as Health Secretary. Price notable wants to gut Medicare—a very successful program—rather than expanding it to everyone, which should be the only replace of Obamacare when it gets repealed. Additionally, as reported in the New York Times: “Buying and selling health care stocks as a member of Congress while you’re voting and helping those companies, that’s bad enough,” said Senator Sherrod Brown, Democrat of Ohio. “But what he wants to do to maybe the greatest program in American history, Medicare, is much, much worse.” Finally, Kellyanne Conway made what appears to be another little blunder. Speaking remotely to the chipper crew at Fox and Friends Conway, with the white house logo right behind here, set aside her role as Advisor to the President for a full 30 seconds where show auditioned for what might just well be her next job: host on the home shopping network. *** Tags Nevertheless She Persisted, Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump, A trump Show, podcast
