NFL commissioner Roger Goodell put out a video message on behalf of the NFL, admitting wrongdoing for banning players from peacefully protesting. President Trump called the statement "interesting" in a tweet, saying:
"Could it be even remotely possible that in Roger Goodell’s rather interesting statement of peace and reconciliation, he was intimating that it would now be O.K. for the players to KNEEL, or not to stand, for the National Anthem, thereby disrespecting our Country & our Flag?"
While Goodell never directly mentioned kneeling or the anthem, he pledged to listen to his players and learn how to support their messages.
