Sometimes we think we’re open. We might even characterize ourselves as an open person. If you are characterizing yourself that way, this is the very nature of closing down. Claim nothing. Anytime you proclaim everything, you take the identity that has not been inspected and move that identity out into an opinion, an idea, a statement or some kind of thing to keep the world from seeing closely who you are. It’s a kind of highly sophisticated paranoia, the very thing we want not to be: closed. That’s what this path is about. It is not about believing in something. It’s about being genuine, being open-hearted by looking closely at the way in which you are closed.
