President Donald Trump spoke over the phone with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump stated that negotiations to end the war in Ukraine will begin this Friday at the Munich Security Conference.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also addressed the Russia–Ukraine war during a NATO meeting in Brussels. He mentioned that NATO membership for Ukraine is unrealistic and suggested that Ukraine should abandon hopes of regaining all of its territory from Russia.

Tulsi Gabbard was sworn in as director of national intelligence shortly after the Senate confirmed her, largely along party lines. Sen. Mitch McConnell was the only Republican to vote against her.
