Sheng Thao has been declared Oakland’s next mayor following a long ranked-choice voting process that eliminated all other candidates. She will be Oakland’s first Hmong mayor and the first Hmong mayor of any major US city; and at 37-years old Sheng Thao will be the youngest mayor of Oakland in about 75 years.
