More recently athletes all over the country have been flexing their muscles indoors and  a new outdoor season is just around the corner. Already Mark Smyth, the Raheny Shamrock AC sprinter has thrown down the gauntlet setting a new 200m indoor record in the Leinster championships to go with the gold he took in the nationals a few weeks earlier. 
Tokyo Olympian, Marcus Lawler, has had to settle for silver both times. Here he looks forward to the challenge set down by his rivals and discusses his career as an Irish full-time athlete.
