Final Book in a Great Series

Given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book was a total rollercoaster. I was back and forth between being proud and happy for the characters, to wanting to scream at them for falling into the same bad patterns. Iâm going to comment on Regan and Gage separately first, then them as a couple. Regarding Regan, I am so happy with how far she has come. From the girl we first met in âOutside the Ropesâ who just existed as she drifted through life, to the young woman we see in this book who is fighting with everything she has to save the life sheâs built.

Now onto Gage. There were times in this book, that I really wanted Gage from âOutside the Ropes" back. I missed the seemingly put together, successful, and strong male that he was in that book. I was so disappointed in him for a majority of this book, how just when it seemed like things were going good for him and Regan, he managed to get sucked back into his past, deeper than ever. And the decisions he made and actions he took to survive and cope in that life broke my heart. At the same, I applaud how different this made Gage, how real it made him, heâs someone who is flawed, who has moments of weakness and makes mistakes, instead of the perfect cookie cutter alpha male, so often seen in books today.

When it comes to Regan and Gage together, Iâve been rooting for them since the first book. But honestly, no matter how much I wanted them together, and how proud I was of Reganâs inner growth that led to how much she fought for them, there were times that I just wanted to see her give Gage an ultimatum and if he couldnât be honest with her, take the actions needed to separate himself and ultimately them from that life, then Regan needed the strength to pack up her things and leave. The back and forth of Gage keeping things from Regan, her freaking out, forgiving him, just to have the same issues and fight arise days later was so maddening.

Overall, I decided to give this story 4 stars for two reasons. The story started off a little slow to me, however by midway through the book the pace and intrigue really started to pick up. Secondly, was due to the repeating back and forth arguments between the characters. Gage is a smart guy and I was so exasperated by his inability to get away from that life and his lack of honesty, no matter how many times Regan proved that his secrets wouldnât scare her off, he still kept her in the dark. I just wanted them to be able to communicate with each other and work together, because as the previous books showed us, Regan and Gage are at their best when theyâre on the same page.

All in all, itâs a credit to Ms. Claudyâs writing that she has drawn me into these characters and their lives so deeply to elicit such a mixture of emotions while reading this book and I have truly enjoyed all the twists and turns through the whole series and would highly recommend it.

Not a sweet romance, but awesome non-the-less

Wow what a roller coaster ride. This is a terrific ending to an awesome series.
