Having received over a dozen grants, and participated in just as many clinical trials, he currently has a pending grant for 5-year study on the "Role of Gut Microbiota in Modulating Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy for Cancer." Frankel has stated that immunotherapy is the most important advance in the past decade against cancer.
