Zack Wheeler struck out 10, while Edmundo Sosa stayed RED HOT as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Colorado Rockies, 5-1.  

 

Wheeler kept the Rockies bats at bay over his seven innings, allowing just one run on a solo homer to Hunter Goodman in the 7th, but that’s all Colorado was able to get off the Phillies’ ace. Wheeler allowed just 3 hits while issuing no walks in his first win of the season.  

 

For an offense that is usually reliant on the long ball, the Phillies did a great job of manufacturing runs. Edmundo Sosa led the charge with another multi-hit game, his 4th in as many games including a clutch two-run double with the bases loaded in the 8th.  

 

Kyle Schwarber started the scoring with an RBI double in the 4th inning that plated Alec Bohm. Then Schwarbs scored later in the inning with some great heads up baserunning. With Schwarber on third, J.T. Realmuto hit a short dribbler just barely onto the infield grass, Scharber read the play perfectly and scored when Rockies’ starting pitcher Kyle Freeland threw to first, the Phils’ DH broke for home and scored.  

 

Trea Turner also had a 3-hit night for the Phils, who will go for the series sweep of the Rockies, Thursday afternoon at 1:05.
