This week’s guest: Steve DeLaney
TheBrianLennonShow’s residential spiritual guide, Steve DeLaney, who writes some things (somedelaney.substack.com) joins us to discuss the season of Advent, which begins this Sunday, December 21. His first Advent themed post, an introduction to the series titled, Visitations, will be published this Friday.
Typewriters: I’ve been collecting typewriters, do you remember writing each other letters after I moved to Florida? You wrote one as Vince McMahon? Those letters were important to me.
The Writing Life: In addition to writing about Advent, what projects have you been working on? Will you be ramping up your Substack?
Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub: I thought the stage was on the left side, but it was on the right. Smaller than I remembered.
Advent: This year, Steve’s Advent reflection is titled Visitations. From Steve: “I’m envisioning it as visiting places and memories — a kind of mini pilgrimage — that each week will offer a kind of practice for Advent. Along with stories, poems and other resources.”
What are some practices you do as part of Advent? Obviously, writing involves some meditation on scriptural readings and listening to God’s message.
* Prayer routine?
* Are there any particular Saints or scriptural characters you find have a strong Advent message or are personally helpful to you to study at this time of the liturgical year?
Vocations: Brian recently attended a program with Rhonda Gruenewald for Vocation Ministry. Steve shares his personal story about discerning a vocation to the priesthood.
