Social Media has largely replaced mainstream media as the primary news platform, in which individual sources have gradually become known personalities. Every user on a platform like Twitter has their own megaphone, own small media company which can post all kinds of content to their followers. 

2014 was a watershed year for the entry of politics into these platforms. The virality of content was a big draw for politicians to spread their message. We've been observing this phenomenon for some time now, having used social media exclusively for consuming politics for the past few years. 

In these years, we have come across many personalities who have become primary sources of information as well as prominent political "handles" as we call it.
